Helgio

Terms of Use

Effective date: 1 October 2026 | Version 3.0

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern the use of the Helgio browser extension, helgio.io, the Helgio account area and related Helgio services (together, the "Service").

The Service is provided by MINTECH GmbH, Karl Heinrich Waggerl Gasse 1, 3013 Pressbaum, Austria, Commercial Register FN 578433 m, Landesgericht St. Pölten, VAT ID ATU78165405 ("MINTECH", "we", "us"). Contact: support@helgio.io.

Nothing in these Terms limits mandatory consumer rights that apply to you under the law of your country of habitual residence.

1. Scope and contract structure

1.1 You may use limited Helgio functionality without an account. If you create an account, you enter into an agreement with MINTECH governing your use of the Service under these Terms.

1.2 Paid subscriptions purchased through the web are sold and processed by Paddle, acting as an authorised reseller / Merchant of Record. The relevant Paddle contracting entity is determined by the buyer's location and is shown or determined under Paddle's Buyer Terms. Your purchase transaction, payment, invoicing, cancellation, statutory withdrawal and payment refund process are governed by Paddle's Buyer Terms and Refund Policy.

1.3 MINTECH remains responsible for making the Helgio product available and for the product-use obligations described in these Terms. Paddle's terms do not replace your mandatory rights concerning the conformity of the digital service.

1.4 The contract language for these Terms is English. Any translation is provided for convenience unless mandatory law requires otherwise.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 14 years old to create a Helgio account. If you are under the age at which you can independently enter into a paid contract in your country, a parent or legal guardian must authorise the purchase.

3. What Helgio provides

3.1 Helgio helps language learners work with content they are already reading or watching. Depending on the supported surface and current product version, features may include contextual translation of selected text, translation from supported video subtitles, one-click saving of vocabulary, saved context, learning cards and vocabulary review or practice.

3.2 Some features use machine translation or artificial intelligence. Automatically generated translations, definitions, examples and learning materials may contain errors. Helgio is not a certified translation service and should not be relied on for legally binding, medical, safety-critical or other professional translations.

3.3 Compatibility with third-party websites and services may change when those third parties change their systems.

4. Free use and paid plans

4.1 Helgio currently provides up to 20 translation requests before registration. After registration, the account receives 100 additional translation requests. No charge is made automatically when a free quota is exhausted.

4.2 A paid subscription is required to continue using paid translation functionality after the applicable free quota is exhausted. The exact plans, prices, billing periods, taxes and included features are displayed on the pricing page and in Paddle Checkout before purchase.

4.3 One-click saving is not counted as a separate translation request unless the product interface explicitly states otherwise before the action.

4.4 After a paid subscription ends, saved vocabulary and learning cards remain available in the account. You may continue to review and practise saved vocabulary, edit saved entries and add words manually, subject to the functionality then available in the free account.

5. Subscriptions, renewal, cancellation and withdrawal

5.1 Subscriptions renew automatically in accordance with the billing period shown at checkout until cancelled.

5.2 Web subscriptions can be managed or cancelled through the Paddle Customer Portal or another Paddle method made available for the transaction. Cancellation normally takes effect at the end of the current billing period, so paid access continues until then unless mandatory law or Paddle's applicable terms provide otherwise.

5.3 Consumers who have a statutory right of withdrawal should use the withdrawal method made available by Paddle for eligible transactions, including the online withdrawal function in the Paddle Customer Portal where available. See our Refund and Withdrawal Policy for a concise explanation and links.

6. Account and security

6.1 An account is personal to the registered user. Do not share login credentials or use another person's account without permission.

6.2 You are responsible for keeping your authentication methods secure and should notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

6.3 You can request account deletion through the available account controls or by contacting support@helgio.io. Data handling on deletion is described in the Privacy Policy.

7. Your content

7.1 You retain your rights in text, vocabulary entries, notes, documents and other content you submit to or save in Helgio ("User Content").

7.2 You grant MINTECH a non-exclusive right to host, process, transmit and technically reproduce User Content only as needed to operate, secure and support the Service and to comply with law.

7.3 You must have the right to process content through Helgio. Do not upload confidential information or third-party personal data unless you are authorised to do so and Helgio is appropriate for that use.

8. Licence and acceptable use

8.1 We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Helgio software and Service in accordance with these Terms for the duration of your access.

8.2 You must not misuse the Service. In particular, you must not:

8.3 Reverse engineering is prohibited only to the extent permitted by mandatory law.

9. Third-party services

Helgio relies on third-party infrastructure and service providers for functions such as hosting, authentication, translation, AI processing, document conversion, analytics and payment processing. Relevant privacy information is provided in the Privacy Policy. Use of third-party websites remains subject to their own terms.

10. Changes to the Service

10.1 We may update the Service for valid reasons such as security, legal compliance, compatibility with third-party platforms, technical improvements or new functionality.

10.2 For consumers with an ongoing paid digital-service contract, any change that negatively affects access to or use of the Service beyond a minor extent will be handled in accordance with mandatory consumer law. Where required, we will provide advance information in a durable medium and explain any right to terminate.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms where reasonably necessary, for example because the Service, law or our business model changes. Material changes affecting registered users will be communicated in advance where required by law. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

12. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access where reasonably necessary because of serious or repeated breach of these Terms, fraud, unlawful use, security risk or non-payment. Where appropriate and legally required, we will give notice and a reasonable opportunity to remedy the issue. This section does not limit mandatory consumer remedies.

13. Conformity and liability

13.1 Statutory rights concerning the conformity of digital services remain unaffected, including rights under applicable Austrian and EU consumer law where relevant.

13.2 Nothing in these Terms excludes liability where exclusion is prohibited by law, including liability for intent, gross negligence or personal injury where applicable.

13.3 To the extent permitted by law, automatically generated translations and learning content are provided as language-learning assistance and may be inaccurate. You should independently verify content before relying on it for important decisions.

14. Governing law and jurisdiction

Austrian law applies to the agreement between you and MINTECH, excluding conflict-of-law rules and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of mandatory protection available under the law of your country of habitual residence. Statutory consumer jurisdiction rules remain unaffected.
